My research works have been mainly directed toward natural disaster science and engineering. I am particularly interested in developing computer algorithms for a real-time prediction of ocean-related hazards such as tsunami and storm surge. To that end, I have applied various methodologies through data assimilation and machine learning techniques. These new paradigms in the prediction science are proven to be effective in overcoming the limitations of the conventional models. At the Prediction Science Laboratory of RIKEN, based on a multidisciplinary approach, we will further develop novel methods for more accurate predictions of natural systems.
