The 13th Prediction Science Seminar(Prediction Science Laboratory and RIKEN iTHEMS Joint Seminar) was held on January 23rd, 2023 (Monday), 10:30-12:00 (JST), and was delivered by Dr. Noriaki Ueda of RIKEN Center for Advanced Intelligence Project.
Dr. Noriaki Ueda first summarized recent advances in deep learning fields and their applications. He compared physical model-based approaches, neural ODE approaches, and mixed approaches, e.g., Hamiltonian Neural Networks.
Then he focused on a physics-informed deep learning approach to model crustal deformation due to earthquakes. He introduced basic physical models and their method with neural ODE to model crustal deformations. The proposed neural ODE model improves some disadvantages of the physical models. The solution by the proposed method agrees with the analytical solution, even when the physics-based model does not agree with it.
