2023-04-24[Past Event]The 17th Prediction Science Seminar (2023-4-21)

The 17th Prediction Science Seminar was held on 21 April 2023 (Friday), 10:30-12:00 (JST), and was presented by Prof. Masaharu Nagayama from Hokkaido University (top line, third in the picture).
In this seminar, Prof. Nagayama presented mathematical modeling of self-propelled objects that move by generating surface tension differences on the water surface. First, he described a mathematical model describing self-propelled object motion. The mechanism of the collective motion observed on a circular channel (e.g., traffic jam-like motion) was explained by analyzing the mathematical model. He then discussed the mechanism of complex motions based on the numerical results of global bifurcation structures. He finally discussed the relationship between our self-driven motion model and reaction-diffusion systems.
After his presentation, we had a fruitful discussion about the various aspect of this interesting phenomenon and possible control of chaos in this system.
